We will study the THH of the fixed points of a ring spectrum by a trivial Z-action as a cyclotomic spectrum. In particular, we will see that the coassembly map for the trivial Z-action on T(n+1)-local TC of a ring spectrum R is never an isomorphism as long as the T(n+1)-local TC of R is nonzero. We will then explain how the disproof of the telescope conjecture follows from asymptotically comparing Adams operations to the trivial action.
