I will report on recent joint work with Qiaochu Ma on Gromov’s 1986 conjecture that closed manifolds with positive scalar curvature should have vanishing simplicial volume. We prove the conjecture under a mild decay condition on the fundamental group, and as a geometric application show that a closed oriented manifold with scalar curvature sufficiently positive compared with its Ricci lower bound has vanishing simplicial volume (arXiv:2606.29135v2).
