Harvard Math Senior Preceptor Janet Chen Receives Teaching Award
Janet Chen, a Harvard math senior preceptor, was awarded a 2025 Anya Bernstein Bassett Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Harvard Office of Undergraduate Education. The award is designed to highlight the integral role that non-ladder faculty play in the FAS teaching community and is conferred annually upon a select number of faculty nominated by their departments. Nominees must show a track record of implementing evidence-based teaching practices, an orientation toward pedagogical innovation, and an exemplary alignment with departmental curricular goals.
“It’s an honor to be recognized,” Chen said. “I’m really grateful to be in a department that does so much to support teaching and curricular innovation. It’s also incredibly rewarding to get to know our students. They bring such a variety of experiences, interests, and goals. I especially appreciate their curiosity, dedication, and openness to learning math in ways that may be very different from their high school experiences.”
Chen is one of seven award recipients this year.
