Speaker: Vincent Costa - Harvard University
The Eckmann-Hilton argument is a result about how the “compatibility” of two unital multiplication structures implies that they are the same, and in particular, that they are commutative. In this talk, we will state and prove the main theorem, discuss a more abstract formulation in terms of monoid objects and monoidal categories, and use it to prove that higher homotopy groups are abelian.
