In the first part of this talk, I will give a primer on the theory of o-minimality, a subject that has led to many developments in algebraic geometry and number theory in recent years. In the second part, I will give a proof (due to Scanlon) using o-minimality of a real analytic case of the dynamical Mordell-Lang conjecture. This proof can be considered to be a Euclidean version of the p-adic Skolem method, which I will also recall.
