A Tetrahedral Approach to Calabi-Yau Geometry

CMSA EVENTS: CMSA MEMBER SEMINAR

When: March 7, 2025
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Speaker: Charles Doran (Harvard CMSA)

We will open with a quick introduction to the what and why of Calabi-Yau geometry.  Following this, we will consider the problem of deforming tetrahedra while preserving the areas of their faces, following our noses to discover a beautiful path to elliptic curves, K3 surfaces, and beyond.  Time permitting, we will also discuss motivations and applications across physics.  The talk should be broadly accessible.
