Teaching Goals

The Center for Teaching at the University of Iowa has an online Teaching Goals Inventory that can help you to determine general categories of teaching and learning goals that are important to you. This inventory was developed to study the teaching goals of college faculty, and Thomas Angelo, of Boston College, reports that across academic disciples, developing higher-level thinking skills consistently ranked as the highest priority for teachers. His essay has some tips about how to make this goal actually come through in teaching.

Here's the teaching statement that I wrote while I was job hunting in 2004.
