The Basics

• What it is: a place to get help on math homework or just find other students to work with
• When it's held: Sundays - Thursdays 8:30 - 10:30 pm (with occasional breaks for holidays)
• Who it's for: students in Math X, 1a, 1b, 21a, and 21b
• Where it's held: Science Center B10 (in the basement) for Math X, 1a, and 1b students; Science Center 222 for 21a and 21b students

The MQC is staffed by course assistants (CAs) from Math X, 1a, 1b, 21a, and 21b, as well as by some graduate students from the math department. They are not there to do your homework for you; their job is to help you understand the material well enough to do the homework yourself!

Unfortunately, there are not enough CAs to make sure that each course has a CA on duty every night, but any of the staff members should be able to help you with your questions.

Getting the most out of the MQC

The MQC is often used by a very large number of students, which means that MQC staffers may only be able to spend a few minutes helping any one student. Make the most of this short time! Students who have used the MQC offer the following advice:

• Before you come to the MQC, work on your homework, and try each problem thoroughly. Come up with specific questions.
• At the MQC, discuss your questions with other students before asking for help from a staffer.
• If you are really stuck, there will be a sheet at the front of the room letting you sign up for help from a CA. Try to make your questions as specific as possible so the CA can help you most effectively.

Finally, remember that the MQC is not the only available source of help! Each course has office hours and problem sessions; consult your course webpage for details.

Holidays

For the Spring 2007 semester, the MQC will open on Tuesday, February 5th and end on Monday, May 1st.

The MQC will be closed for the following holidays:

• Sunday, February 17 (for Presidents Day)
• Sunday, March 23rd to Thursday March 27th (for spring break)
