Bosporus Marathon, October 2010

Source: Hürriyet Daily News, Istanbul of October, 18, 2010.
Tens of thousands of people crossed the Bosborus bridge at the "Eurasia Marathon" in Istanbul. Resonances are responsible that the bridge started to swing.

There is some controversy about the reason for the effect: since the runners do not run syncronized, the resonances are harder to explain. But watch this video of Steven Strogatz on synchronization.
