The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the
Macalester College Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer
Science announce a six-week (June 18 - July 27, 2012) REU in applied
mathematics. The program will be hosted at the IMA facilities at the
Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota (UMN).
Students will work on open research problems posed by UMN researchers
in computer science and engineering. Research teams will be advised by
Macalester faculty. Students will also collaborate with IMA postdoctoral
fellows. Topics for Summer 2012 are drawn from optics, robotics, and
social computing. The various projects employ techniques from
mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
Full details, including descriptions from two previous summers, can =
be found here.
The online application is due March 1, 2012. This program is
sponsored by a 3-year NSF grant and by the IMA. Questions are welcomed.

- Chicago Urban Teacher Education Program (Chicago UTEP).
Chicago UTEP distinguishes itself from traditional and alternative
certification programs by focusing on urban education; committing to a
residency model focused on Chicago Public Schools; providing more than one
year of student teaching experience; and giving graduates three years of
post-graduation support. Additionally, financial support for students who go
on to teach in Chicago Public Schools can include up to ,000 in grants,
making our two-year Master of Arts in Teaching program affordable.
Online form - 2012 summer research program for undergraduates on contact geometry and homological algebra that is being offered at UC Berkeley this summer. The program is supported by an NSF RTG grant, and participants will receive full room, board and travel expenses, plus a small stipend. This could be ideal preparation for current juniors interested in = geometry who are planning on writing a senior thesis. To participate, students need only have completed either a first course in topology or a first course in abstract algebra. The website for the program is here. If you do know of any interested students, please encourage them to email cristofaro.gardiner.com directly with any questions.
